Dipl.-Phys. (Physics) Dr. Martin Tongbhoyai
German Patent Attorney, European Patent and Trademark Attorney
Dr. Tongbhoyai studied physics at the University of Bonn, receiving his undergraduate degree in physics in 1994. During his studies he concentrated on solid state physics, applied medical technology and computer technology. He worked as a teaching assistant and doctoral candidate at the University of Bonn from 1994 until 1997, when he received his Doctorate in Physics. His doctoral dissertation dealt with the development of a new device that makes possible the destruction free testing of materials. He trained as a patent attorney in Berlin and Munich and joined Patentanwälte Freischem in 2000 after completing a three-month internship with the Patent Law group of a large US law firm.
Martin Tongbhoyai handles all aspects of commercial intellectual property law. In the area of patent law he specializes in the fields of telecommunications, automotive technology, optics, and construction.
In addition, he represents clients in trademark application proceedings as well as patent and trademark infringement cases. Moreover, he assists clients in developing licensing strategies and drafts licensing agreements.
Since October 2013 Martin Tongbhoyai serves as president of the Federal Association of German Patent Attorneys.
Memberships: the German Patent Bar, the Institute of Professional Representatives before the European Patent Office (EPI), the Federal Association of German Patent Attorneys, the German Association for Commercial Trademark and Copyright Protection e.V. (GRUR), the International Trademark Association (INTA), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), and the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI).
